ORLAN visits Lusófona University

Exciting news! Following Nan Goldin in 2022 and Sara Driver in 2023, this year's Multiplex guest is ORLAN, a French performer, multimedia artist, and feminist born in 1947.

ORLAN's work spans various disciplines, including painting, sculpture, photography, and video, alongside installation and performance art. Internationally recognized since the 1970s, her aesthetic surgeries in the 1990s, turned public performances, rituals, and feminist statements of freedom, reignited attention to the artist during a period of reflection on the boundaries of the body, technology, and bioethics. Currently, she's involved in digital media, robotics, artificial intelligence, and biotechnology research.

In 2022, ORLAN had an exhibition titled "Les femmes qui pleurent sont en colère" featuring her digital images at the Picasso Museum in Paris, followed by a retrospective exhibition at SESC São Paulo (Brazil) in 2023.

Multiplex 2024 features two conferences by ORLAN at Lusófona University, a retrospective screening of her films at Batalha Centro de Cinema (Porto), and a screening in Lisbon followed by a debate between ORLAN and French curator Yannick LeGuillanton.

The event on May 17th at 4 PM (CET) will be live-streamed on FilmEU's Youtube channel. Entrance is free at Cinema Fernando Lopes (Lusófona University) subject to room capacity.
