The aim of these awards is to recognize the best national productions. Its name was chosen in honor of the poet Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen and because it means "wisdom".
Lusófona University has consistently led the nominations and awards in the different editions of the Sophia awards and the 2024 awards confirm Lusófona University's leading position in the context of film and audiovisual education in Portugal, corroborated by the fact that the University is consistently ranked first in the ICA - Instituto do Cinema e Audiovisual competition for funding for Portuguese Film and Audiovisual schools.
