Judith Pernin’s background is in Chinese Studies and Film studies. She holds a Ph.D. in History and Civilization from the School of Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences (EHESS, Paris) on Chinese independent documentaries (1990-2010). Based in Hong Kong, China, and Taiwan for over a decade, she has written extensively on documentary films, protests, and festivals from the region. She is also the co-editor of Post-1990 Documentary: Reconfiguring Independence (Edinburgh University Press).
