The "48 hours European Interschool Challenge" was first presented to the public at the CILECT conference in October 2022. The Challenge itself took place in March/April 2023.
The participating students and teachers came from very different schools across Europe: 3is (International Institute of Image and Sound) in France, Tomas Bata University in Zlín (Czech Republic), Institut des Arts de Diffusion (Belgium), Dalarna University (Sweden), London South Bank University (UK) and Lusófona University (Portugal).
Students from participating schools collaborated to write, shoot and post-produce a short film ranging up to 2 minutes in length, including credits. A specific theme was assigned ("the dilemma"), accompanied by surprise constraints disclosed right at the start of the project. The winning selection process took place in several phases, with jury votes from the supervising teachers, as well as students' votes to determine to participants' first prize.
The challenge was coordinated by 3is. It was running on the weekend of March 17 – 29, and was the 2nd intake after a hiatus due to Covid.
Aside from its educational benefits, this project aimed to facilitate connections between European film schools and students. Through this initiative, we aimed to foster greater collaboration and exchange among young filmmakers.
