AISS Erasmus Mundus Students Tackle Sustainable Development Challenges with Creativity and Dedication

Last week, AISS Artificial Intelligence for Sustainable Societies Erasmus Mundus students celebrated the conclusion of the study subject on how the sustainable manager solves the mystery of sustainable development goals like a detective. Along the road, we encountered CSRD, ESG, LCA, and EPD, also known as amazing creatures. Managing cultural construction such as SDGs may look impossible but since we only have one Earth and must coexist here together with all beings, it became increasingly evident in the end that the only viable option is to continue travelling through it, attempt to separate the significant from the unimportant, and utilise intellect to power your inner imagination.

The practical work was to solve the data collection & presenting mystery of Standard, one of the oldest furniture production (now more often known as interior design) companies in Estonia.

The main findings from the final presentations were:

  • Avoid using AI because it uses a lot of energy and doesn't produce the results that are needed right now;
  • The interior design industry has a lot of data, which makes it difficult to present accurate results, could there by any other way?;
  • Start small, test, and solve as many of the problems as you can today, and put the rest off for the near future.

The students deserve a huge applause. The subject is curated and lectured by practical entrepreneurship lecturer Kelli Turmann and SiTES - AISS programme manager and digital transformation professor Merja Bauters.

This programme has been created in collaboration with Tallinn University, Tampere University, Universidade Lusófona - Centro Universitário Porto, Citizen OS Foundation , Biotoopia I Estonian Anthropocene Center, Inspirators! , Lääne-Harju vald.
