Over the course of a week, Lisbon became the stage for the BIP Film Workshop, an exciting initiative that brought together students from ULusófona, BFM, NATFA, and VSMU (FilmEU partner institutions) for an immersive experience in shooting on film. The challenge? To create a music video with fado singers, capturing the city's authentic atmosphere and vibrant soul.
The journey began with a warm welcome at Estúdio Q, where students had the chance to connect and prepare for the days ahead. After an initial moment of bonding, the participants got to work — scouting locations, preparing cameras, and setting the groundwork for an intense and creative filmmaking process.
Divided into groups, the students ventured through the streets of Lisbon, transforming the city's iconic locations into living sets. They filmed, experimented, and brought their visions to life, all while working with the unique and meticulous process of analog film. Once filming wrapped, it was time to prepare the film for lab processing, ensuring that every frame captured the essence of the moment.
A special visit to Cinemateca – Centro de Conservação (ANIM) offered participants insight into the art of film preservation, followed by a free afternoon to explore Lisbon and soak up its inspiring energy.
The highlight of the workshop came with the first rushes screening at Cinema Fernando Lopes, where students had the opportunity to see their work on the big screen. The screening was followed by a closing lunch — a moment to reflect, share experiences, and celebrate the connections made throughout the week.
As the workshop came to an end, participants left Lisbon carrying not only new skills and cinematic experiences but also unforgettable memories of the city and the friendships forged along the way.
