Coimbra Group Publishes Statement in Support of the European Degree Ahead of Education Committee Meeting

As the European higher education sector continues to evolve, the Coimbra Group has released a statement ahead of the Education Committee meeting on 3-4 February 2025, urging all stakeholders to sustain momentum in the development of the European Degree (ED). This initiative represents a significant step toward modernising and strengthening higher education across Europe.

The statement highlights key aspects of the European Degree:

  • Enhanced Competitiveness – Strengthening the global reputation of European higher education in research and teaching.
  • Student Benefits – Providing future-proof skills and promoting academic mobility to ensure graduates are well-equipped for an evolving job market.
  • Innovation in Academia – Encouraging interdisciplinary curricula and fostering collaboration among academic staff to drive institutional change.
  • A Collaborative Vision – Building on successful initiatives such as the Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters (EMJM), the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Doctoral Networks, Erasmus+ pilot projects (ED-AFFICHE & EDLab), and the European Universities Initiative. These frameworks have proven effective in benefiting students, institutions, employers, and society by integrating research and education to develop essential competencies for the future.

FilmEU European University supports the Coimbra Group's statement, recognising the importance of ensuring continuity and development in joint European education frameworks. The experience gained through initiatives such as the European Universities programme has demonstrated that structured transnational collaboration can create impactful educational models. FilmEU remains committed to contributing to this ongoing transformation, advocating for policies that support innovation and excellence in higher education.
