FilmEU and IADT Mark Milestone in Joint Programme Quality Assurance

Today marks a significant milestone in the FilmEU cosmos as our first-ever quality assurance evaluation of a joint bachelor's degree programme based on the European Approach concluded at Dún Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology (IADT).

Over the past two days, an independent panel of national and international experts engaged with students, staff, and stakeholders across IADT and its European partner institutions to assess Pathfinder, FilmEU’s Joint BA in Film.

The European Approach for Quality Assurance of Joint Programmes provides a streamlined, cross-border framework for ensuring the highest standards in European higher education. More information on this process can be found here.

While the official report is yet to be published, the initial findings presented by panel chair Eva Fernandez de Labastida were highly positive. The FilmEU European University looks forward to the full report and remains committed to delivering an outstanding international educational experience in film and media. FilmEU would like to extend its sincere gratitude to Chair Eva Fernandez de Labastida, the entire evaluation panel, and QQI for facilitating a smooth and productive process.

Dr Deirdre O’Toole, Academic Co-Ordinator at IADT:

“The Joint BA in Film represents an innovative and forward-thinking approach to higher education collaboration. This process highlights the importance of rigorous quality assurance in ensuring that cross-border programmes meet the highest academic standards. The engagement from students and faculty across multiple institutions has demonstrated the strength of our academic partnership and our shared vision for the future of film education in Europe.”

Barry Dignam, Vice Dean for European University at IADT, stated:

“I’d like to express my appreciation to everyone who has contributed to the development of this groundbreaking Joint BA. From the dedicated teaching teams within FilmEU and FilmEU+ who designed and refined the curriculum, to those who crafted the business plan and quality assurance framework. A special thanks goes to all those who participated in the panel visit, including those joining us online—this achievement is a testament to the strength of our collective efforts.”

David Smith, President of IADT, added:

“It was clear from the Chair's closing remarks that this innovative programme is set to be a model for European University collaborations. The successful development and future delivery of the Joint BA stems from deep collegial relationships across all partners in the alliance and a shared commitment to excellence in film and media education. We look forward to reading the full report in due course.”
