FilmEU Chief Research Officer

FilmEU is a result of the European Commission initiative promoting high-level education, innovation and research in the film and media arts uniting over 5 000 students. FilmEU brings together eight European higher education institutions. Led by Lusófona University from Portugal, it includes VŠMU (The Academy of Performing Arts, Bratislava, Slovakia), TLU (Tallinn University, Estonia), LMTA (The Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre), LUCA School of Arts (Belgium), VIA University College (Denmark), IADT (Dún Laoghaire Institute of Art Design and Technology, Ireland), and NATFA (The National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts, Bulgaria). Together, these institutions work to promote high-level education, innovation and research activities in the multidisciplinary field of Film and Media Arts. Through this collaboration, they aim to consolidate the central role of Europe as a world leader in the creative industries.

The FilmEU Alliance is looking for a Chief Research Officer. The Chief Officer should be a strategic thinker, problem solver and skilled communicator, comfortable with interacting with legal, municipal and industrial entities as well as event, charitable and academic entities. Strong leadership and project management skills are a must. PMP certification would be a plus. The Chief Officer is responsible for the R&I Strategy of the Alliance, including the pre-award external funding scheme and joint policies.

ASSIGNMENT

Short term

  • Follow-up of 2025 EU calls
  • Support pre-award efforts across the Alliance including joint applications
  • Support and manage all internal R&I applications and ongoing projects

Long term

  • (1)Five-year Research Strategy for the FilmEU Alliance, including
  • Horizon Roadmap
  • Creative Europe Roadmap
  • (2) Definition and roadmap for knowledge and innovation transfer across the Alliance

PROFILE

A Doctoral degree (or related experience) in a relevant field such as Science, Technology, Academia, Business Administration, Legal or a closely related discipline.

Additional qualifications or professional experience in Research Management or Innovation Management would be advantageous. E.g.:

  • Research experience in academia, industry or research institution.
  • Proven track record of published research and securing research funding.
  • Experience in managing innovation projects, managing intellectual property, partnerships between academia and industry.
  • Knowledge of data management and visualization tools.
  • Experience in managing teams and fostering a collaborative work environment.
  • Strong networking skills to build and maintain relationships with academic, industry, and government partners.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

REQUIREMENTS

  • Currently hold research management/coordination position (more than 40%) at any of the member schools of the Association with previous experience working on the European Universities initiative (UL, TLU, IADT, LUCA, NATFA, LMTA, VSMU, VIA).
  • The secondee must have the support of the rector/president of their institution.

SELECTION PROCEDURE

The selection process will include the following stages:

  • Initial Screening: Applications will be reviewed by a pre-selection team to ensure candidates meet the minimum requirements.
  • Shortlisting: The most qualified candidates will be shortlisted based on their submission, with a focus on alignment with the role’s responsibilities and profile criteria.
  • Interviews: Shortlisted candidates will be invited to participate in one or more interviews, which may include a presentation on their vision for the role or a practical case study related to the FilmEU Alliance’s objectives.
  • Final Selection: The evaluation panel will assess candidates based on their qualifications, performance in interviews, and potential contribution to the Alliance's goals.

The Chief Research Officer is expected to begin their role in June 2025.

  • Administrative Support: Research coordinator: Rikke Thomsen
  • HR representative: familiar with filmEU from the country that the position will be placed
