FilmEU reaffirms its commitment to supporting higher education and research in Ukraine

FilmEU, along with 35 European Universities Alliances, reaffirms its commitment to supporting higher education and research in Ukraine. Since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, European universities have played a crucial role in assisting students, academics, and institutions facing the challenges of war.

This collective effort has gone beyond emergency support, fostering deeper cooperation between European and Ukrainian universities. With Ukrainian higher education institutions actively participating in nearly 2,000 Erasmus projects—including leadership in 15 capacity-building initiatives—the collaboration continues to grow.

Currently, more than half of the European University Alliances have Ukrainian partners, contributing to digital education, joint programmes, and institutional development. This Open Letter urges the European Union and Member States to:

  • Support displaced Ukrainian universities and ensure education and research are part of Ukraine’s reconstruction efforts.
  • Enable alliances to participate in Ukraine-focused funding schemes and capacity-building projects.
  • Facilitate flexible Erasmus+ funding for cooperation with Ukrainian institutions, acknowledging their valuable contributions.

FilmEU and its partners remain committed to playing an active role in shaping a resilient and inclusive European higher education landscape.
